Retail Sales

 

 

Mandate:

Manages the merchandising of all CLRSS retail goods (hoodies, T-shirts, hats etc.). Funds raised go to support our many programs.  Find us at all CLRSS sponsored events.

River Clean-up

 

 

Mandate:

Responsible for all aspects of organization of the yearly Cowichan River Clean-up event.  Once per year for the past 8 years, our volunteers along with friends, neighbours and in conjunction with the local levels of government have participated in a cleanup of the river bottom and shoreline of the upper Cowichan River.

Water Traffic

 

 

Mandate:

To explore solutions to safety concerns and the growing problem of noise on Cowichan Lake.

To promote safe, appropriate and welcomed recreational use of Cowichan Lake.

To promote considerate and respectful conduct that will enable everyone to enjoy being on and around Cowichan Lake.

Water Quality Monitoring

 

 

Mandate:

Regular monitoring provides baseline data which will be used to detect change over time. The information is shared with the Province and the BC Lake Stewardship Society to compare our lake with others in the province. Of 110 monitored lakes in BC we are currently ranked second for clarity. For more information on BC lakes visit www.bclss.org

Cowichan Shoreline Stewardship

 

 

Mandate:

Manages the Cowichan Shoreline Stewardship Project in the rehabilitation of Lake and River riparian zones.  Coordinates funding and dispersal of funds.  Oversees the work done.

Fry Rescue

 

Mandate:

When drought conditions are imminent, works collaboratively with other stakeholders, to move stranded fish fry to safer regions. In 2019 the 16 week program resulted in the salvaging of 35,000 endangered fry from tributaries flowing into Lake Cowichan!

Mandate:

To organize and co-ordinate fund raising to support the on-going work of the Society and to support the Gerald Thom Environmental Studies Bursary.

Stream Signage

Erect and maintain signs where roads cross fish-bearing streams in order to educate the public on the importance of preserving natural habitats.
